Our history
Due to the difficult situation in the then socialist Czechoslovakia, it was almost impossible for František Furch to purchase high-quality instruments in 1981. For this reason, he began to manufacture guitars himself - a venture that later paid off and earned him an excellent reputation among guitarists worldwide.
The founding of the company proved to be extremely risky due to government control; nevertheless, Furch made his first models illegally in his home tinkering room. His love of handcrafting eventually led him to build acoustic bass guitars and mandolins, as well as further modifications of his guitar models.
Thanks to increasing demand, Furch was able to successfully establish his company; sales figures rose steadily and shortly after the official registration process, his instruments were already sold out up to six months in advance. Nevertheless, the company narrowly escaped insolvency due to unclear business conditions as well as nonsensical strategic decisions.
To overcome these hurdles, appropriate course corrections were made - since then, business has been running smoothly. To this day, there is no assembly line production: every note is carefully played by hand - which, according to many musicians, lends a special soul.
UDavid Knopfler or Rudolf Schenk (The Scorpions) as well as Mick Box (Uriah Heep) and Suzanne Vega are just a few of the well-known artists who call a Furch their own. The excellent reputation of František Furch's company is based not least on the use of high-quality materials such as mahogany or ebony.
This results in acoustic guitars with an incomparable sound - which is why many guitarists claim that playing a Furch has an inspiring effect and encourages improvisation. And whoever has heard the sound of such a guitar - for example Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" played on a D-33SR acoustic guitar for about 2000€ - will understand why some songs have to exist in versions of more than ten minutes length!
